TITLE: Pre-K Assistant Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Complete an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood or Child Development OR
- Complete an Associate’s Degree OR 60 College Credit Hours AND 12 Early Childhood college credit hours OR completion of an Early Childhood training program.
- Good physical condition with the ability to lift 10 pounds.
- Competent at instructing, assisting and caring for young children.
- Hold effective organizational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Be skilled at taking direction and working as part of a team.
REPORTS TO: Pre-K Teacher, Principal and Pre-K Director
SUPERVISES: N/A
JOB GOAL: To provide students with the social/emotional support and the academic and physical development skills necessary to function in daily living for achieving the foundation necessary for Kindergarten Readiness and beyond.
PERFORMANCE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform instructional activities under the direct guidance of the Pre-K teacher.
- Work cooperatively with all staff.
- Work within the framework of the Sunflower County Consolidated Schools as set forth in the line organizational chart.
- Assist teacher with planning for instruction and executing and evaluating its effectiveness.
- Participate in daily and long-range lesson and activity planning.
- Constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students; monitor student attitudes and encourages self-esteem; provide social-emotional support to students.
- Monitor student behavior, and help maintain discipline in the classroom.
- Assist with the supervision of children during regular play periods.
- Conduct learning centers with small groups of children; conduct learning activities with individual students.
- Guide children in working and playing harmoniously with other children.
- Alert the teacher to special needs of individual children.
- Provide escort and assistance to children as necessary, especially to and from the bathrooms and various locations within the school.
- Help maintain individual records and transition folders for each child.
- Foster good eating habits and table manners in children.
- Assist teacher in maintaining neat work and study areas.
- Collect and displays suitable material for educational displays.
- Remain knowledgeable of current Pre-K issues by attending school, District and State staff development as determined by the school principal, Pre-K Director, SCCSD District staff or the MS Department of Education.
- Must complete a minimum of 15 Contact Hours in Early Childhood Staff Development each school year, as required by the MS Department of Education.
- Serve as bus monitor on the Pre-K buses as scheduled by the Principal or Pre-K Director.
- Assist in preparing the classroom and organizing all instructional materials and equipment as directed by the Pre-K teacher.
- Administer diagnostic tools as directed by the Pre-K teacher.
- Assist in the supervision of students on bus trips.
- Prepare for breakfast and lunch in the classroom or in the designated eating area (i.e. cafeteria).
- Assist Pre-K teacher on the playground and in the designated P.E. areas (if applicable) in teaching and coaching physical activities that strengthen gross motor skills.
- Must maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.
- Act in a professional manner at all times.
- Project a positive image of SCCSD at all times.
- Dress neatly and appropriately for the position held.
- Follow daily schedule as outlined by the lead teacher, Principal or Pre-K Director.
- Perform other routine duties as assigned by the lead teacher, principal or Pre-K Director.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year established by SCCSD School Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated bi-annually by the Superintendent. |
